THE REASON FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT

What is the reason for the Holy Spirit, you would ask.  In John 16:8 “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:” (John 14:26) “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”  (John 16:13) “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

(Romans 8:6-8) “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So, then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

Because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God, but it does not subject it self to the law of God.

According the gospel of John and the book of romans; here is the reason for the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin. Guides us to the truth, teaches and reminds us of the Word of God. Guides us to walk in the spirit.  The Spirit of God is our helper. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sins, you would ask how is this done? You might ask, “what is sin?” (1 John 3:4) “Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.”  The Spirit of God convicts us of breaking God’s law. He convicts us from right and wrong. The Spirit of God guides us to the truth. What is truth?( Psalms 119:142) “Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Your law is truth.”  The Spirit of God guides us to His Torah. Which teaches us how to love. The Spirit of God is our teacher and reminds us of God’s Word. The Spirit of God teaches us the commandments of God and reminds us of it, to obey His commands.

In the book of Romans shows us how the Spirit of God teaches us the right way to walk in the spirit. Walking in the flesh will lead us to death with no eternal life.  But by walking in the spirit will lead us to life with peace, also known as the everlasting life with Christ. The flesh wants to sin, which is part of the fall of Adam.  (Romans 8:7-8) “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

The Spirit of God helps us to walk in the spirit to give us choice to choose obedience in obeying God’s commandments and turn our backs on sin. “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statues, and you will keep My judgments and do them.” (Ezekiel 36:25-27)

Works do not save us. Grace through faith is how we are saved, but once we believe we should act accordingly to what we believe. Faith leads to action. We need both faith and works, they work together to bring us more into God’s presence and for His Spirit to empower us to walk in His likeness, which is walking in the spirit.  People who put their faith in God, obey God. To obey God is to obey His commands.

In the Old Testament the day of Pentecost was the day Israel received the 10 Commandments. Pentecost in the New Testament was when the believers received the Helper, the Holy Spirit. How amazing it is how God made His Commandments and His Spirit come down on the same day.
